Senior Event: Lunch and Everyday Heroes
Monday, September 30, 2024 — 12:00pm
What makes a person risk their lives for others? Dr. Emilie L. Lucchesi introduces four stories of distinct heroism, all based on compassion for others. In occupied Italy, a nun hides Jewish women and children in her convent. In Communist Cuba, one man risks his freedom to feed his starving niece and her family. In a POW camp, a nurse selflessly cares for other inmates. And, a wife follows her Japanese-American husband into an internment camp and quietly documents the injustice for history to remember. Dr. Lucchesi will also explore what social scientists have discovered about compassion and the selfless desire to help others. This lecture is an inspiring look at people who were bright lights in dark times.
Prior to the presentation we will enjoy lunch from Ambrosia in Bartlett.
