Senior Trip: Lizzadro Museum and Lunch
Thursday, January 23, 2025 — 9:30am - 2:30pm
The Lizzadro Museum of Lapidary Art, which is the art of cutting and polishing stone, displays jade carvings, uncarved gemstones, fossils, and other minerals, as well as sculptures, mosaics, dioramas, and a miniature castle made of carved stone and gold, called “Castle Lizzadro”. The museum was founded by an Italian immigrant, Joseph Lizzadro, in 1962. He began collecting jades as part of his interest in cutting and polishing precious stones for jewelry. His collection came to include pieces made of amber, ivory, coral, agate and other gemstones.
Our tour starts with an introduction about the museum and its founder, followed by a 15-minute video about the collection, and finally a self-guided tour.
After the museum we will venture to Francesca’s Amici in Elmhurst. Here you will enjoy a family-style lunch of baked bread, sausage and peppers, Caprese salad, rigatoni ai funghi, parmigiana di melanzane and profiteroles al gelato. Lunch includes a beverage.
